History of Accra City
Accra is the capital and largest city of Ghana, with an estimated urban population of 2.269 million as of 2012. It is also the capital of the Greater Accra Region and of the Accra Metropolitan District, with which it is coterminous. Accra is furthermore the anchor of a larger metropolitan area, the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA), which is inhabited by about 4 million people, making it the second largest metropolitan conglomeration in Ghana by population, and the eleventh-largest metropolitan area in Africa.

Accra stretches along the Ghanaian Atlantic coast and extends north into Ghana's interior. Originally built around a port, it served as the capital of the British Gold Coast between 1877 and 1957. Once merely a 19th-century suburb of Victoriaborg, Accra has since transitioned into a modern metropolis; the city's architecture reflects this history, ranging from 19th-century architecture buildings to modern skyscrapers and apartment blocks.

Accra serves as the Greater Accra region's economic and administrative hub. It is furthermore a centre of a wide range of nightclubs, restaurants and hotels. Since the early 1990s, a number of new buildings have been built, including the multi-storey French-owned Novotel hotel. The city's National Theatre was built with Chinese assistance. In 2010, the GaWC designated Accra a Gamma-minus-level world city, indicating a growing level of international influence and connectedness.

The central business district of Accra contains the city's main banks and department stores, and an area known as the Ministries, where Ghana's government administration is concentrated. Economic activities in Accra include the financial and agricultural sectors, Atlantic fishing, and the manufacture of processed food, lumber, plywood, textiles, clothing and chemicals.

Airlines often announce deals on Monday evenings. By Tuesday at noon, other airlines are scrambling to match those deals. So many people think that Tuesday afternoons are the best time to hunt for reduced airfare.

Texas A&M University, however, crunched the numbers and found that weekends are actually the best time to book airline cheap flight tickets. That's because airlines are more likely to lower their fares on Saturday and Sunday to attract leisure travelers. The study found that cheap flight tickets purchased on the weekend were historically an average of 5% cheaper than similar cheap flight tickets purchased during the week.

Of course, that was only to places with mixed business and leisure settings. Leisure-only destinations, like Las Vegas, do not change much through the week. So, what should you do? If you see one airline offering a deal on Monday, make plans to buy your cheap flight tickets on Tuesday. If there are no deals going on, buy on the weekend.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A new airline lands at KCI for the first time in two years. Spirit Airline takes off today at a cheap to travelers, but do you really save any money?

Spirit Airline launches a no frills flying experience, where you have the option to add luxuries offered with other airlines at a cheap cost. Everything from checked baggage to overhead storage will cost you extra.

While the initial price is significantly cheaper, once you factor in the extra costs, the price nudges closer to that of Southwest, but still a far cry from airlines like American. Spirit Airlines Director of Public Affairs Paul Berry says Spirit is not for everyone.

"If you are use to flying with an oversized carry on that you really probably should be checking and if you do not pay for it online, you do not pay for it at check-in, we are gonna force you check it, and we are going to charge you $100. That is designed to change behavior for people not to bring on oversized bags into the carry on area," said Berry.

The Florida based company's first official cheap flight from Kansas City will head to Chicago this afternoon.

Spirit Airlines Debuts at Kansas City, Launches Five New Routes

Spirit Airlines made its debut at Missouri's Kansas City International Airport on Thursday, launching nonstop service of cheap-flight-4u on five routes. The self-described "ultra Cheap flight" is now flying from Kansas City to Chicago O'Hare, Dallas, Detroit, Houston and Las Vegas.

"Spirit Airlines' decision to add Kansas City to its rapidly expanding network is a testament to the strength of this region," Mark VanLoh, Director of Aviation for the Kansas City Aviation Department, says in a statement.  For Spirit, Kansas City will be its first new destination since it unveiled a brand overhaul in May that the airline hopes will help it win fliers over to its no-frills, fee-heavy business model. Charging for everything from water to carry-on bags, Spirit and its cheap-flight-4u seats have been a lightning rod for customer complaints.

Spirit thinks that if customers know what they're getting up front a cheap fare flights with no additional "perks" – then they'll be less likely to be dissatisfied with the Spirit's level of service. And that's the message Spirit was delivering to the Kansas City media ahead of its launch.

"We put two inches less than other airlines in seat room so we can put more seats on the cheap-flight-4u plane," Spirit spokesman Paul Berry says to Kansas City's Fox 4 News. "It's the car pool effect. When more people fly, they are splitting the cost of gasoline amongst them and that way, they keep their fares low. It's a tradeoff. You give up some of the creature comforts of space in exchange for a 50% less fare."

The Kansas City Star in an article that asks "Will Kansas City embrace Spirit Airlines' Bare Fare?" suggests Kansas City could offer clues to how the traveling public is responding to Spirit's rebranding efforts. "Our planes are always full," Berry says to the Star. "The people who really love us, they get us.

"The people who haven't quite gotten us, who have expressed some hate because of their experience, we feel it's a time to help educate them on who we are," he adds, referring to the new branding initiative.
